Step 1 - The Job Role

Here at the Cruise Retail Academy, we are dedicated to "illuminating" your career, offering extraordinary opportunities for Liquor Specialists to work onboard luxury cruise ships around the globe.


  • Do you possess a comprehensive knowledge of beverages and an understanding of the ingredients and flavor profiles of various liquors from around the world, including whiskey, vodka, rum, and gin?

  • Would you relish the chance to create magical moments for your guests with your expertise, conducting tasting sessions and delivering captivating presentations?

  • Are you prepared to educate and train others in classic beverages, cocktail mixes, proper serving techniques, and stay abreast of new trends in the industry?

  • Do you thrive on entertaining and delivering exceptional guest experiences?

  • Do you excel at orchestrating special activations that draw crowds and elevate entertainment?

  • Can you "Craft the Perfect Pour" and are you ready to "Guide others to Spirits Perfection"?


How You’ll Create Magical Experiences Onboard as a Liquor Specialist:

  • Collaborating with fellow shoppies and specialists onboard to craft an exceptional guest experience and deliver captivating entertainment.

  • Partnering with cruise line associates and onboard teams to curate magical events.


What Experience We’re Seeking:

  • We seek honest, hardworking individuals with a genuine passion for liquor, eager to create enchanting experiences onboard through their knowledge and charisma.

  • Positive experiences working with guests to create memorable moments on land, at sea, or even on the moon... If you can deliver outstanding guest experiences and thrive in a team environment, you're already ahead.


What You Can Expect:

  • Access to the Cruise Retail Academy and comprehensive brand training

  • Competitive salary and an attractive commission structure.

  • Onboard accommodation and meals.

  • Customized in-house training covering sales, product knowledge, and brand expertise.

  • Contract-based role, with opportunities to work and live at sea for up to 6 months at a time, with breaks between contracts.

  • Assistance with necessary visas and seafaring documents for work at sea.



Step 2 - Requirements


Before you start an amazing adventure on the oceans and growing your career, it is important to know that getting onboard a cruise ship for the first time is a little bit complicated. As such, you need to be fully prepared for the steps you will need to take before you can start working.  


It can take 3-6 months to get onboard, and for those candidates who use us to find a job onboard, we will help, guide and support you all the way until you embark safely.

Before you step onto the gangway and into your first cruise ship you will need to go through 6 main stages to get there, which we will guide you through as part of your application process with us.

  1. Application (this part)

  2. Interview and Assessment (with us first, then with client afterwards)

  3. Medical (between $300 - 600)

  4. C1/D Visa Application (typically around $180 - reimbursed onboard)

  5. Pre-employment HR certification including:

    1. Police clearance certificate

    2. STCW training (between $100 basic - $800 comprehensive)

    3. HR paperwork

  6. Travel arrangements (cost depends on operator)
