Step 1 - The Job Role

Job Summary


The Inventory Specialist analyzes and reconciles monthly, as well as, ad-hoc cycle counts onboard assigned vessel. Additionally, prepares reporting detailing cycle count variances, reasons for the variances, as well as areas of opportunities. Partners with other departments to ensure full compliance of documented processes / timelines. Additionally, maintains responsible for the locker outlay, in line with the locker map, ensuring that all the merchandise are kept in order and accounted for and provides feedback on the loadings and the merchandise needs for the stores.


Duties and Responsibilities


  • Conduct cycle counts, SKU checks and inventory preparation.

  • Reconcile ships cycle counts completely and accurately.

  • Prepares and distributes cycle count results, including insights and detail analysis into possible causes of variance.

  • Processes inventory adjustments, MOS, and damages.

  • Validates shipboard discrepancies as it pertains to inventory.

  • Ensures items are correctly priced and assist with keeping locker layout tidy

  • Monitors stock levels and properly replenishes, in a timely manner.

  • Responsible for stock control and inventory management, including receiving and storing the delivery of large amounts of stock, with an emphasis on asset protection.

  • Is accountable for ensuring that there is an optimal supply of products and recommend additional inventory when necessary; especially of products that have been identified as “best sellers”.

  • Regularly checks on items are within their sell-by date and respects the FIFO products life-cycle.

  • Reports discrepancies and problems to the supervisor.

  • Keeps the lockers organized and in compliance with vessel safety guidelines.

  • Maintains responsibility for the organization of all storage areas, as it relates to organization.

  • Proactive Approach, diligence, consistency and strong ownership skills.

  • Keeps the lockers tidy and clean, this includes hovering and mopping.

  • Keeps up to date with special promotions and putting up displays.

  • Prepares to multitask and take on additional duties as needed (including vessel safety duties).

 

Required Skills


  • Fluent in English, oral and written. Ability to speak multiple languages preferred, but not required.

  • High School graduation certificate.

  • At least 1 contract experience in the Inventory Associate position at HACR.

  • Previous shipboard retail experience highly preferred.

  • Strong customer service, communication and negotiation skills.

  • Knowledge of products and inventory techniques.

  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time and move boxes weighing up to 50lbs.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.


ACADEMY COMMENT:

This is a great role for someone with strong operations experience, who is looking for a fast track to becoming an assistant retail manager within the next year. You need to have a good technical skill in inventory management before applying.

 


Step 2 - Requirements


Before you start an amazing adventure on the oceans and growing your career, it is important to know that getting onboard a cruise ship for the first time is a little bit complicated. As such, you need to be fully prepared for the steps you will need to take before you can start working.  


It can take 3-6 months to get onboard, and for those candidates who use us to find a job onboard, we will help, guide and support you all the way until you embark safely.

Before you step onto the gangway and into your first cruise ship you will need to go through 6 main stages to get there, which we will guide you through as part of your application process with us.

  1. Application (this part)

  2. Interview and Assessment (with us first, then with client afterwards)

  3. Medical (between $300 - 600)

  4. C1/D Visa Application (typically around $180 - reimbursed onboard)

  5. Pre-employment HR certification including:

    1. Police clearance certificate

    2. STCW training (between $100 basic - $800 comprehensive)

    3. HR paperwork

  6. Travel arrangements (cost depends on operator)
