Step 1 - The Job Role

As an Art Consultant, you will provide an elite and personable experience to clients as an expert within onboard galleries.  You will use your flair and engaging personality to develop loyalty with customers through a one-to-one, flexible and dynamic consultative approach sharing your passion for an exclusive range of artwork including original paintings, limited editions and sculptures.


You will take responsibility for exceeding set personal targets through inspiring passengers with passion, knowledge and articulation through every-day conversations as well as art seminars in a public speaking role. You will also deliver a tailored customer service program which falls within the department’s sales strategy.

You will undertake set duties and responsibilities in the support of the cruise ship’s obligation regarding Safety, Security and the Safeguarding of the Environment whilst you are on board our clients’ ships. You will sail between five to seven months continuously, during any sailing period, 365 days a year throughout the world.

It’s important that you uphold a professional, positive and resilient attitude and act with integrity whilst also always ensuring compliance to Company policy and procedures and promoting and upholding brand values.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • You will create a strong relationship with clients onboard through a personal and unique service, a creative and proactive mindset and knowledge of industry trends making sure they feel cared for and listened to.

  • Through superior qualification you will knowledgably offer and pitch our extensive range of artwork to passengers.

  • Take responsibility for individual and gallery cruise targets and KPI’s, working towards these with an aim to exceed, generating maximum sales and commission.

  • Introducing add-on products and upselling to at every opportunity to assist the gallery in reaching its full monetary takings potential.

  • Offer confident and articulately delivered Art Seminars to large groups of passengers.

  • You will be involved in aspects of our Artist On-board Exhibitions; starting with promotion.

  • Utilising or selling systems, delivering daily reporting, cash and credit procedure compliance ensuring accurate and effective communication flow between all stakeholders at all times.

  • Participating in the planning and merchandising of the Gallery coinciding with new exhibitions whilst being imaginative and strategic to encourage footfall and to enable the gallery to reach its highest potential.

  • Identifying new business opportunities through cross promotion links with other concession partners and departments onboard where positive relationships are developed and maintained.

  • Utilising tools on board for marketing purposes including cabin drops, client follow ups and interactive digital marketing to engage with passengers.

  • Completing the safety, security and environmental duties required by the ship at any time.

  • Maintain and sustain full compliance and understanding to company frameworks, policies and procedures promoting safe, consistent and compliant working practices throughout.

  • Keeping up to date and researching new artist releases and introducing them into the on board programme.

  • Research and maintain a relevant understanding of artist knowledge and art history, as well the current art market, to be able to offer confidently, a wide breadth of information to your clients and have a credible knowledge of the broader art world.

  • Creative eye for merchandising the Gallery space.

  • An ability to think on your feet, in a fast paced environment to close deals with urgency.


EXPERIENCE

  • Experience within the luxury industry is preferred.

  • A variety of experience within the Fine Art / Luxury Sales industry.

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication is key.

  • Experience with both face to face and over the phone customer engagement.

  • You must experience with liaising with wide ranging clientele.

  • Fine Art Degree of equivalent is desirable however not essential.

Step 2 - Requirements


Before you start an amazing adventure on the oceans and growing your career, it is important to know that getting onboard a cruise ship for the first time is a little bit complicated. As such, you need to be fully prepared for the steps you will need to take before you can start working.  


It can take 3-6 months to get onboard, and for those candidates who use us to find a job onboard, we will help, guide and support you all the way until you embark safely.

Before you step onto the gangway and into your first cruise ship you will need to go through 6 main stages to get there, which we will guide you through as part of your application process with us.

  1. Application (this part)

  2. Interview and Assessment (with us first, then with client afterwards)

  3. Medical (between $300 - 600)

  4. C1/D Visa Application (typically around $180 - reimbursed onboard)

  5. Pre-employment HR certification including:

    1. Police clearance certificate

    2. STCW training (between $100 basic - $800 comprehensive)

    3. HR paperwork

  6. Travel arrangements (cost depends on operator)

Step 4 - Time to Apply

So, you have seen the job description, you have learnt about the requirements and you understand the support that is available from us.


Now, it is time for you to apply for the role. To do this we would like you to complete 3 tasks:

  • CV: Ensure that your CV is up to date and saved in PDF format to be uploaded

  • Video: Record a 1-2 minute portrait-format personal profile video introduction to help us get to know you as a person, your personality and passion beyond your CV. We're looking for individuals who can bring energy and enthusiasm to our galleries. Here are a few tips to help you create a great video:

    • Keep it brief. Your video should be around 1 minute and no longer than 2 minutes in length.

    • Be yourself. This is your chance to let your personality shine! We want to see your genuine energy and a positive attitude.

    • Showcase your experience. Tell us about yourself and your previous roles. Highlight experiences that align with the position you're applying for, specifically focusing on skills like sales, achieving targets, presentation, and building strong relationships.

    • Bring the energy. Speak confidently and with enthusiasm. We'll be looking for your ability to connect with people, much like you would during a destination talk or a conversation with a guest during a Q&A..

​When you have finished recording and are happy with your work, make sure that your video is in a standard format (usual video file for a mobile phone) and upload it to YouTube Shorts or Loom (you can set the video to 'unlisted' if you want it to remain private). Once you have uploaded it, copy the link to the video as you will need to paste this onto the application form, once you have uploaded your CV.  

  • Application Form: Complete the rest of our application form with requested additional details / understanding not shown on your CV.
