Step 1 - The Job Role

We are seeking an energetic and creative Cruise Photographer to capture exceptional photographic memories for our guests throughout their journey, particularly in unique locations like Alaska. This highly visible role requires you to capture amazing moments onboard and during excursions. You will be a positive role model on the ship, leading by example and collaborating with the team to develop fresh creative and sales strategies. If you are passionate about photography, excel in guest service, and are ready to work seven days a week in an exciting, fast-paced environment in an incredible location, this is your opportunity to join our team.


What You'll Do:

As a Photographer, your role is more than just taking great photos; it's about interacting with people and ensuring every guest onboard has memories they can enjoy long after their cruise is over. As with all team members, you will be an positive ambassador for the partner creating images on prestigious cruise lines.


Responsibilities:

  • Consistently leading by example by way of behavior, attitude, and actions.

  • Photograph guests onboard and throughout tour activities. For example, independently running a portrait studio on a gala night, leading guests around the ship for a private photo session, shooting candid portraits at a sail-away party, taking photos of guests on a once-in-a-lifetime tour or standing on a gangway or in port capturing images of the guests as they disembark.

  • Produce quality photographic products for sale and assist guests in choosing their perfect purchase to remember their travels with

  • Interact with guests, onboard staff and fellow crew members offering a helpful and courteous service throughout their journey.

  • Proper care and maintenance of all photographic equipment

  • Work at a considerable speed, without compromising the quality of your work.

  • Proactively build relationships with guests by communicating with a warm and friendly personality.

  • Collaborate, support, and celebrate the successes of your fellow team members.

  • Collaborate creatively with the Onboard Photo Manager to introduce fresh shoot ideas and sales strategies that not only maximize revenue but also amplify the experience of our guests.

  • Be ready to work 7 days a week

  • Be aware of waste and try to conserve photographic materials

  • Be an advocate for Diversity, Inclusion and Equality throughout the company.

  • Dress to Impress with a smile: ensure adherance to the Company’s uniform standards at all times.


Skills & Requirements

  • Previous experience of working as a photographer at sea is preferred

  • As an technically competent photographer, you’ll have a working knowledge of the following:

    • Basic principles of photography, e.g. the relationship between aperture & shutter speed, ISO etc.

    • The ability to utilize flash effectively.

    • Understand basic lighting principles.

    • Capture compelling images during private shoots.

    • Edit photos with speed and precision.

    • All images should be sharply focused and well composed.

  • The ability to help mentor the more junior members of the team.

  • Guest Services Skills

  • Sales skills.

  • For certain opportunities, US national or US visa will be required

  • While fluent spoken and written English is a requirement, additional language proficiency is a real bonus.

  • The ability to work closely within a team and also independently should this be required

  • Willingness to undertake a program of learning and development with a “can-do” attitude

  • Exceptional timekeeping and management.

Step 2 - Requirements


Before you start an amazing adventure on the oceans and growing your career, it is important to know that getting onboard a cruise ship for the first time is a little bit complicated. As such, you need to be fully prepared for the steps you will need to take before you can start working.  


It can take 3-6 months to get onboard, and for those candidates who use us to find a job onboard, we will help, guide and support you all the way until you embark safely.

Before you step onto the gangway and into your first cruise ship you will need to go through 6 main stages to get there, which we will guide you through as part of your application process with us.

  1. Application (this part)

  2. Interview and Assessment (with us first, then with client afterwards)

  3. Medical (between $300 - 600)

  4. C1/D Visa Application (typically around $180 - reimbursed onboard)

  5. Pre-employment HR certification including:

    1. Police clearance certificate

    2. STCW training (between $100 basic - $800 comprehensive)

    3. HR paperwork

  6. Travel arrangements (cost depends on operator)
